Nutrition Comparison: Fast Food

Your task is to find out the nutritional information for a meal at your favorite fast food restaurant.  There are four steps to this task:

  1. Create a “meal menu” where you list the items you would typically order from that restaurant.
  2. Search for nutrition information from that restaurant’s website. A simple Google Search of the restaurant name and “nutrition information” should pull up results. Please only use information from the restaurant’s official site.
  3. Beside each item, list the calories, grams of a nutrient and % daily value for: Fat, Carbs, and Protein.
  4. List the total calories, fat, carbs and protein AND percentages for the entire meal.

  • McDonald’s Quarter Pounder w/ cheese: 510 calories, 42 g of fat (65%), 40 g of carbs (13%), 48 g of protein

When you are finished, give your thoughts and opinions about whether that meal would be a REASONABLE part of a person’s daily food intake. Be honest. Consider how fast food restaurants market their food items, making meals cheaper than individual items, or the size of servings of the food that is ordered.  How does and how should fast food fit into the lives of people?

I ordered a small BK chicken sandwich value meal which contains a small drink and small fries. This meal has 950 calories, 33 grams of fat, 143g carbs, and 28g protein. I think this is a little too much not good stuff. I think people can eat fast food in moderation and stick to healthier foods more often.

I went to Burger King and ordered and double cheese burger medium drink and medium fries-1430 calories,73g fat, 145g carbs, 55g protein. I dont think its a reasonable part of someones daily diet, it has a lot of calories and fat, but for someone like me who is growing it might be ok every once in awhile.

My meal would be at Chick-fil-A. Usually I get a Chick-fil-A Sandwich, a medium fries, and a medium sweet tea. The sandwich has 430 calories (21.5%), 17 grams of fat(26%), 31 grams of protein (47%), and it has 39 grams of carbs (13%). The fries have 380 calories (19%), 21 grams of fat(32%), 4 grams of protein (6%), and 45 grams of carbs (15%). The sweet tea has 130 calories (6.5%), 0 grams of fat, 0 grams of protein, and 32 grams of carbs(11%). This is pretty good for a fast food restaurant but not that good. This meal would be about half your calories for the day. More than 50% of your grams of fat for the day. It has more than 50% of your protein for the day too, and it has almost 40% of your carbs for the day too. So this is okay but other places could be better.
